I am writing with great news! As many of you know, our Mission is as follows:
Pinups for Pit Bulls works to educate the public about the history and temperament of the American Pit Bull Terrier and Mixed Bully Breeds, to raise awareness about Breed Specific Legislation and breed-specific abuse, and to raise funds for bully-breed-friendly rescues and dogs in need.
Our goal is to reestablish the defamed reputation of the Pit Bull as America's premier companion animal, war hero, and therapy dog.
That being said, it is with great joy that I can report to our friends of Pinups for Pitbulls that together, we affected change! We made a huge impact on Verizon, so much so (and with the aid of the ASPCA) that Verizon pulled their advertisement which made "pit bulls"seem vicious, while simultaneously showing them chained in a junk yard.
Here was an ad making 3 fouls at once! Chained dogs are unacceptable, all dogs should have the right to have a home, inside! Junkyard dogs are the perfect example of how awry their personalities can go, without the love and nurture that all animals deserve. Lastly, showing crop-eared pit bulls lunging at a human's face, protecting a PHONE. This was a major foul on Verizon's part! Pit Bulls are NOT human aggressive. All dogs have the propensity to become aggressive, especially in an environment that does not encourage their mental happiness and growth. None of these images were kind to the pit bull image, and it was most disturbing since it was the same week Best Friends was promoting their amazing turn around of the Michael Vick dogs, in rehabilitation. It had me sickened for days, doing my best to rally up energy to get the petition signed, posting everywhere I could think, bullying my Verizon account-holding friends to cancel their Verizon accounts, and more. Together, we made so much noise that this ad is gone.
Please read the update from the petition site, below:

I have just spoken with Steve Schwartzman, Executive Coordinator, who told me that the offensive ad has been pulled in all markets. Thank you to all who signed this petition and made the calls! Mr. Schwartzman was very understanding of our feelings, and admitted that they have received quite a bit of heat over this commercial.
Each and every one of you made the difference.
Thank you again.
Sincerely,
